The CHOBITS Omega Project was nearly scrapped after initial tests had only just begun.

The prototypes Chomega-1 and Chomega-2 were not built with enough reinforcement behind their armoured skin. Their structural integrity had become compromised due to the excessive equipment both were armed with - resulting in their uselessness in high-stress situations. The revolutionary Mk.1 Plasma Rifles only just being issued to artillery teams in the military were built into the left arms of both prototypes, and proved to be too heavy, straining the synthetic muscle-fibres in the limbs. The close-quarters-combat weapons had been built into the right arms, and were designed to retract like a switch-blade into the limb when not in use, but this reduced the strength of the limb itself, and thus, combat ability was also diminished. The gliding wings built into their backs had been designed to wrap around the torso and act as a kevlar vest to aid in protection of vital systems, eliminating the need for such thick armour in the torso - the heft of the material, however, rendered gliding impossible, as was proven quite graphically when Chomega-2 attempted to use the gliding function before it was ready for testing. The team of mechanical engineers worked in shifts, around the clock for one week to repair Chomega-2, but could not finish because parts of its damaged areas are thought to have been disintegrated entirely from the impact.

Secondary prototypes, Chomega-3 and Chomega-4, were built with more reinforcement in their structure, but this resulted in an almost tank-like approach in combat situations. Their reaction times with the equipment were sluggish and their ability to evade was nullified outright. Though now able to carry all of the equipment that was thought to be necessary, their abilities were diminished so much that it was felt that using these models in combat would result in failure, if not complete catastrophe. The plan to remodel these prototypes was made, but has since been put-off by the design team. Chomega-3 and Chomega-4 had been disarmed and put into service aiding the Omega Project's design team. It is felt that their basic construction, that of their bodies, is a leap forward in CHOBITS technology, and will be implemented in future prototypes.

Which brings us to prototypes Chomega-5 and Chomega-6. At this point, finding the funds to create their prototypes was becoming a project all by itself. In fact, almost one-quarter of the design team had to be laid off to save money. So it was that Chomega-5 and Chomega-6 were designed to be different, unlike their predecessors who had been made in pairs to be like twins. It was meant as a safety measure, in the event of things such as Chomega-2's "accident". These new prototypes, after activation, were shown video recordings of the previous tests in order to teach them one thing: Obedience. The lesson was learned well by Chomega-5, but Chomega-6 had developed a rebellious side. Involuntary systems checks were completed with minimal interruption from Chomega-6, but when Voluntary system checks began, Chomega-6 required nearly 24 hours more time than Chomega-5 to complete the checks. Bordering on mutinous, Chomega-6 did as he (apparently) pleased. The mechanical engineers were ordered to remove all unnecessary equipment from Chomega-6 after every test had been completed, and the on-site military personnel were asked to keep an eye on him.

These latest prototypes were designed differently in appearance from their predecessors, who had been modelled entirely from the Human image, like Persocons. The design team, who had become bored with the conventional ideas, began using their imaginations, even their fantasies, in producing designs for Chomega-5 and Chomega-6. Chomega-5 had been designed to reflect the physical traits of a cat. These additions to the basic design were not without purpose. The tail Chomega-5 was given could act as a 5th limb if need be; the ears, like a cat's, were designed to swivel and pick-up faint and distant sounds; she was given claws, razor-sharp, and even cat-like teeth for her closed-quarters-combat weapons; her cat-like eyes were designed to give her a superb depth-perception, as well as allowing her more than one kind of optical vision; to add to the likeness of a cat, they had made fur for her, but this fur was made of thousands and thousands of tiny fibre-optical hairs, and enabled her to change the colour of her fur, much like the scales of a chameleon, and possibly camouflage her entirely, similar to the Cheshire cat. Likewise, Chomega-6 was given similar design characteristics. Due to the cost of the technology used to produce these two prototypes, certain things, in particular the fibre-optical "fur", had to be limited, and because of this, both prototypes were only partially covered with this camouflage.

Chomega-6 was created on a new idea altogether. The male form, by nature, is sturdier, stronger, and generally a better fit in the role of combat. So it was decided that Chomega-6 would be constructed in the form of a man, and to fit the more masculine version of the Chomega prototypes, he was given the characteristics of a dog, instead of a cat, as Chomega-5 had been. Strangely, both of these prototypes adopted slight personality traits of the animals they had been designed to reflect. The design team's software programmers still deny having anything to do with that, and said it must have been an adaptation after witnessing the animals they now share similarities with. Though why they would adopt the strange behaviourisms that come with the animals is still a mystery. The two do not fight, or even dislike one another, so luckily that bit of the cat/dog relationship was left out.

Perhaps it was a coincidence, or some quirk of fate that these two machines came to be partners...

I might write more about this, but I just wanted to get a general idea out before I forgot about it. I thought it was going to be funnier, but really, I think there's only one slightly funny part in that. =T
